WHAT IS THE

DWELLING PLACE

INITIATIVE?

Our pursuit of raising 2 million dollars so that we can purchase our building at 2211 Hawks Landing DEBT-FREE!

WHY ARE WE PURSUING THIS?

  • God’s leadership and an open door:

Our number one reason for purchasing this building is that we believe God is leading us to! The more we continue, the clearer it becomes that God is opening this door. Our lead pastor, Mitchell, was praying for God to give us clarity on our longer-term location as a church, specifically by the summer of 2025. It just so happens that right before the summer of 2025, the owner of the building had a significant change of heart (which we had been praying for) and decided to begin a conversation with us about the purchase of this building. Things were more officially decided by the middle of the summer.

As icing on the cake, our plans to renovate the back warehouse and move our (now) sanctuary back there were finalized on the actual last day of summer 2025. We see these answers to prayer and the timing of it all as God continuing to open this door and lead us in this direction.

If you’re interested in more details of how God was speaking to us and the different ways we feel that He was confirming that this is the building He has for us, keep reading the next section to hear the backstory of our building.

  • Stake in the ground:

Owning a building and/or land is a huge step for a church community. The Bible says in Psalm 24:1 that, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof…”. When land (or a building)  is owned by a Jesus-centered and gospel-advancing community, it makes a great impact on the surrounding region, and ultimately God reclaims territory that is already His.

In addition, a church owning property communicates something drastically different than just renting. It communicates longevity, commitment, and roots being established with permanence. To have this opportunity as a church community that is only 6.5 years old is quite rare. We consider it such a blessing and gift from God to be in this position. Owning our church building will be a huge asset that benefits us right now, as well as all the future generations to come!

  • Significant change in our financial picture:

Buying our church building debt-free would dramatically affect our staff, our month-to-month budget, and our ability to plan & dream for the future. Additionally, owning a property (versus renting) turns an ongoing operating expense into an asset that adds value over time. As any homeowner knows, this is a huge long-term financial win.

Currently, our staff raises outside financial support to cover a portion of their salary. Purchasing our building would immediately change that and allow our staff to be paid fully from church funds. Our rent payment is currently about 37% of our monthly expenditures. Buying our church building debt-free would effectively bring that amount down to 0% and would free up much more space for generosity, ministry opportunities, more staff, etc.

As we evaluate ministry opportunities within our church and outside of our church, we see so much potential ground that can be taken for the Kingdom of God. However, we currently do not have the room financially to hire more staff who can take on leadership in those opportunities. Purchasing our church building debt-free would allow us financial room to hire the right people to take ground in those areas.

  • Dwelling Place for God’s presence and more people encountering Him:

Lastly, we are pursuing this opportunity to buy our church building because we believe it will lead to more and more people in Northwest Arkansas encountering the life-transforming presence of God. The whole purpose of this initiative is for God to make a Dwelling Place amongst His people, a place where He is worshipped & loved, and a place where we can be ministered to by Him.

WHY THIS BUILDING? WHAT’S THE BACKSTORY?

This building, 2211 Hawks Landing, is quite an interesting space. It’s not necessarily the obvious building a church would say– “yes, let’s meet there!” But God has given us multiple different “winks” that this is the place He has for us.

  • Open Door/Answered Prayer:

In the late Summer / Fall of 2021, our church was just under 2 years old, and we had been meeting in a hotel conference room for our Sunday services, while our staff was meeting at a house during the week as our office space. But at this time, we found out that both of those locations were no longer going to work out. I’d like to say that we were peaceful and confident that it would all work out…but we freaked out! It was a little easier to think about finding a new place for our staff to meet throughout the week because we were small and adaptable. However, finding a place for our church body to meet for Sunday services was a daunting task.

For multiple weeks in the Fall of 2021, we searched for, visited, toured, and even applied to several different properties for our church to meet at. It was a discouraging process because we kept getting shut door after shut door after shut door. The first three weeks of November 2021, our church just so happened to be doing a media fast. As a step of faith and trust, the staff decided that we would pause all searching for a new location during the fast and instead just pray that God would provide. There was some risk involved because our deadline was quickly approaching to find a new place. However, just as God would do in His perfect timing, during the fast and while we weren’t searching online for a new place, we were made aware of 2211 Hawks Landing being put on the market for lease. A neighbor of one of our staff members heard our church was looking for a space, and one of this neighbor’s family members was the owner of 2211 Hawks Landing.

Long story short, the one place that we didn’t search for, visit, tour, or apply for, but that came to us, turned out to be the very answer to our prayers. This building came out of nowhere, and we believe God opened this door for us because ultimately He wanted us here. We’re so thankful!

  • The Mile-Markers on the Razorback Greenway:

One really wonderful aspect of our church building is that it backs up to the Razorback Greenway, a 40-mile paved trail through Northwest Arkansas that stretches all the way from the south end of Fayetteville to Bella Vista. It acts as a primary active transportation and recreation corridor, connecting six downtown areas, schools, businesses, and attractions like Crystal Bridges Museum and the University of Arkansas.

While on a prayer walk early in the process of solidifying this building, our lead pastor noticed that the mile marker just behind the church building was mile 7. The number 7 has great significance in Scripture, primarily symbolizing a sense of peace, stopping, and rest. The most notable Biblical example being the creation account, where God made the world in 6 days, and then stopped and rested on the 7th day. In the long process of searching for a new place for our church to meet on Sundays and our staff to meet during the week, we felt the Lord communicate through this mile marker that it was now time to stop and rest from our diligent work, for this was the place He had for us. It was very encouraging!

Then, about a year later, there was a unique turn that caught our attention. The Razorback Greenway had made some additions to the trail and ended up changing some mile markers. They changed our mile 7 marker to the mile 10 marker. We had settled into our new building at that point and had “rested” from our several-month search, so we were intrigued if there was anything else the Lord could be speaking to us through the number 10. Turns out, He was! The number 10 in the Bible often refers to “completeness,” the full order of something, authority, and responsibility. Through this, we felt that maybe God had a longer-term plan for us to have this building; it would bring a sense of completeness to our church being established in NWA, giving us greater authority in this region to advance the Kingdom of God, and even the responsibility of owning this building one day. And here we are, about 4 years later, having the opportunity to purchase this building as our own!

  • The Address–2211:

As another “wink” from the Lord, the numerical address of this building is significant to us. As mentioned earlier, with the mile markers on the Greenway, God can use numbers to speak to us. In the process of finalizing our move into this building, our lead pastor, Mitchell, was processing through any way God could be confirming that this was the place He had for us. He was thinking through if there were any key scriptures with a chapter 22 and a verse 11. After flipping through the Psalms and Isaiah and a few books of the New Testament, he realized he had missed something huge and personal to him! One of his favorite scriptures in the whole Bible, and one that God had significantly spoken over him prophetically years prior, was Proverbs 22:11. It says, “He who loves purity of heart and has grace on his lips, the king will be his friend.” Early into Mitchell’s walk with the Lord, God was highlighting the importance of purity and connecting it to friendship with King Jesus. How cool!

We don’t think that this is just a coincidence, but that God is prophetically speaking to us about what He wants to do here in and through this church–that He wants to raise up a people who are pure in heart, who worship Him in Spirit and Truth, who reject sin, who see and seek His face, and who as a result, have a deep friendship with the Lord. Let it be, Lord!
